Boek & Tas is a cozy spot in Mechelen where I share my two greatest passions with you:
Boek (/bɔɛk/ Flemish for “book”) refers to the cookbooks I carefully select for my shop. As a devoted foodie and passionate traveler, I’ve discovered that cookbooks are more than just recipes: they are windows into other cultures. They transport you to distant lands, unique family histories, nostalgic memories, and exciting new ingredients. My husband and I share a deep love of cooking, and our daily meals are true feasts. The inspiration to open a cookbook store of my own began about ten years ago, after visiting a charming little shop in Tilburg.
Tas (/tas/ Flemish for cup) symbolizes my love for a comforting cup of tea, coffee, or hot chocolate, with a focus on origin and quality. For me, aroma also plays a central role. My passion for scents started at a young age, influenced by the smell of freshly cut grass, my grandmother’s lavender soup, and the salty sea air at the beach. During my training as a tea sommelier, I was able to deepen this passion. At Boek & Tas, I offer carefully curated tea and coffee experiences, where the right brewing method is essential to bring out their full, rich aromas.
Beyond being a shop and tea & coffee bar, Boek & Tas is also a place for culinary workshops. Drawing on my many years of teaching experience, I design workshops centered around cookbooks, tea, coffee, or chocolate. These sessions are meant to inspire and to broaden people’s culinary horizons.
